August 2018’s Book if The Month-When Beauty Blooms

Hello everyone! Today’s book is special as it it part of Victoria Lynn’s Blog Tour this week( and my first blog tour review!)

About the book:

Revolutionary War Era England

Marjorie Kirk is a woman with no fortune, no prospects, no family, and no skills. Or so she thinks. She is awkward, shy, and the farthest thing from any semblance of a society lady.

The new minister keeps turning up in the most awkward of places and she can’t help but feel that her life is doomed to one of embarrassment. But will her flaws actually be the thing that others find the most attractive?

A story of a young woman with social anxiety and how she learned to bloom.

What I loved:

I loved the way that Ginger, Daphne and Marjorie interacted with each other, even though they were quite different personality wise.

Age Recommendation: 12+

For anyone who wants a sweet short romance, this is perfect.

Where to buy this book

You can buy it on Paperback ( https://www.amazon.com/When-Beauty-Blooms-Victoria-Lynn/dp/1723352721/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1532912849&sr=8-2&keywords=when+beauty+blooms+by+victoria+lynn

Chosen For Such A Time As This Author Q&A

Eek! It’s August! And what better way to start than with an author interview with Jheralynne Foster on her new book!

1. When did you start writing with the hope of becoming an author?

I knew I wanted to become an author when I was in elementary school! That’s when I started writing short stories, poetry and scripts.

2. What is Chosen for Such a Time as This about?

Chosen is a non-fiction, devotional style book written to encourage women of all ages to trust God’s timing, no matter where you find yourself in this season. Chosen is my personal story where I share the lessons I’ve learned and how God has transformed my life.

3. What inspired Chosen for Such a Time as This?

God has taught me so much over the past few years and He placed it on my heart to share my story with other women. The title comes from the belief that there is purpose and beauty in each season.

4. Who is the book for?

Chosen is for women and girls who need hope, understanding and wisdom regardless of where they are in life or what their experiences have been. It is for those who need a fresh perspective or encouragement in their daily walk with Christ. It also addresses many of the issues Christian singles are faced with, and provides practical ways to overcome them!

5. What do you want readers to gain from your book?

I want every reader to know that she is created in God’s image and He has a unique plan for her life. My prayer is that readers will have a better understanding of their worth in Christ, His character and how to trust God and live for Him in today’s world.

6. Have you written any other books and where can we get them?

I am currently writing my second book, which is a 90-day devotional. It will be published this December, so stay tuned! 🙂

7. What kind of books do you enjoy reading?

I enjoy reading books that encourage me to grow. I also enjoy reading relatable fiction books!

8. Where can we connect with you?

I blog at jheralynnefaith.com! I also recently created Instagram and Twitter accounts. You can follow me @styledandgraced

9. What tips do you have for young aspiring writers?

I believe the gift of writing and the desire to write come from God. We were made in His image and He is the ultimate creator, which is why He gives us creative ideas and talents. If you’re a young aspiring writer, I encourage you to write every single day, even if it is journaling. Ask God for direction in how He wants to use you and be intentional about developing your craft! Be confident in who God has called you to be and don’t allow discouragement or fear to keep you from pursuing purpose!

Thank you so much Jehralynne! Be sure to go and check out her book!

The World’s Beneath

1. When did you start writing with the hope of becoming an author?

I’ve always written, ever since I was a little kid (even though that’s such a bleh response from cliche-ville, BUT it is a true reponse) I don’t think I thought much about being a published author back then though, I was too busy scribbling stories and getting ink on my fingers.

I started thinking about publishing as a young teenager, because by that point I knew 100% and beyond that writing and sharing stories was my joy and that I needed to do it forever.

2. What is Worlds Beneath about?

Worlds Beneath is about….ahhh. So much! I kind of like to leave it up to the reader, to find out what it’s about. But the story is a continuation of The Blood Race, picking right up where we left off, following Icarus down into the ravine and the mysteries that lurk below the mist. Simultaneously we follow Hawk, who lays in a coma since Icarus’s fall, and Fin and he struggles to support a crumbling and turbulent Dimension.

3. What inspired Worlds Beneath?

The idea for the story really just blossomed in my head as I reached the end of the writing process for The Blood Race. I started working on Worlds Beneath very soon after.

4. Who is the book for?

Anyone and everyone. If you are currently breathing, this story is for you. To anyone wrestling with life, questions, doubts, dreams, and thoughts – to anyone fighting the darkness and seeking the light, this book is for you.

5. What do you want readers to gain from your book?

Anything that helps them realize there’s a warrior within them. There’s so much packed into the story and I really just want people to read it and let it meet them where they are and see what they organically take away from it. But if the story gives them anything, I hope it gives them trust in the fact that they are so much more powerful and loved and valuable than they realize. That we ALL are.

6. Have you written any other books and where can we get them?

The Blood Race! Book 1 in the series, and you can snag that right here.

7. What kind of books do you enjoy reading?

I love reading non-fiction – scripture, spiritual books, motivational books, military books, science books – you name it. I also beta read for my sister, so I guess fiction occasionally happens too. 🙂

8. Who is your favourite character in Worlds Beneath

OH WELL THIS IS A TOUGH ONE. My favorite characters to spend time writing are Hawk, Icarus, Fin, and Sensei. I can relate to each and I always learn so much from them.

9. Where can we connect with you?

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and of course, my blog. 🙂

10. What tips you have for young aspiring writers?

Keep writing, no matter what! If you want to build a career as a writer, go for it – all the resources you need are available to you! Keep writing and don’t give up, ever, ever, ever.

Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to chat with you about my book, Medomfo! I so appreciate it. You’re a treasure. ❤

April 2018’s Book of the Month

Hello everyone!

It’s been a while since we’ve had a book review, and I’m pleased to share this book with you that I’m on the Street team for.

About the Book

What if friendship cost you everything?
Stranded in Hawaii after the death of her mother, sixteen-year-old Olive Galloway is desperate to escape. She has to get back to Boston before her dad loses all common sense and sells the family house. But plane tickets cost money—something Olive gravely lacks.
With the help of Brander, the fussy youth group worship leader, and Jazz, a mysterious girl with a passion for all things Hawaiian, Olive lands a summer job at the Shave Ice Shack and launches a scheme to buy a plane ticket home before the end of the summer.
But when Jazz reveals a painful secret, Olive’s plans are challenged. Jazz needs money. A lot of it. Olive and Brander are determined to help their friend but, when their fundraising efforts are thwarted, Olive is caught in the middle. To help Jazz means giving up her ticket home. And time is running out.

What I loved:

What  I loved? Oh my goodness, what a question that I am asking myself 🙂

I really enjoyed the setting of the story, Hawaii, because it somehow managed to bring out the story and when it did, it was really beautiful and quite emotional.

I loved the journey that Olive, Brander and Jazz went on to get where they were at the end. Frankly, if I was any three of them and I looked back to see what had happened that summer, I’d be really proud and amazed to see what God had done through me.

Age Rating: 13+

Personally, I think that any preteen aged 11+ can read this book because it is so clean. However, because this book mainly covers the issues about illness and bereavement, there are some scenes where it can get a little bit emotional.

Why I recommend this book:

This was such an enjoyable and touching read about a teen girl who is dealing with teenage life general along with losing the world that she once knew and nearly loses one that she starts to adjust in after the death of her mum. It was so encouraging for me to see that in all trials, there is a way out, and as Christians, even when all else  seems to fail, God is always at work within us.

Where to buy this book:

Well, I am pleased to say that this book is coming out this week on May 1st in the US AND the UK!

You can preorder the ebook or the paperback on Amazon, and if you are British, you can preorder the ebook here

A quick note that I’d like to make is that Taylor is a teen author!

Awesome, huh?

How about you

Do you know of any teen authors?

At Her Fingertips Blog Tour-Author Q& A

Hello everyone!

I’m so excited to have Kellyn Roth on my blog today for an interview for her new book, At Her Fingertips.

Hi Kellyn. When did you start writing with the hope of becoming an author?

Probably when I was eleven or twelve. After I finished it back in 2014, I knew I wanted The Dressmaker’s Secret to be my first published work. That was also about the time I learned about Indie publishing and decided to pursue it.

What is At Her Fingertips about?

Well, because I can never sum it up in my own words, here’s the blurb:

Alice Knight is looking forward to her debut as it means she will be able to carry out her plan. She will have her first Season in London, she will meet her husband, and she will marry him. However, Alice struggles to make her feelings reconcile with her goals.
Alice is sure that, if she can only cling to her plans, she will manage without help from anyone — including God. A childhood friend returning unexpectedly, a charming gentleman who is not all he should be, and an American author with strange ideas about life all make her question the plan.
With the life she longs for at her fingertips, can Alice grasp it?

What inspired At Her Fingertips?

I always knew I wanted to write a book about Alice’s young adulthood – her first Season in London, meeting her future husband, etc. It was just a matter of deciding exactly how that would happen! It took a bit of brainstorming.

Who is the book for?

Young adults who want to serve God in their lives – though I think adults may be able to enjoy this story as well. It’s for fans of historical romance and Christian fiction with strong themes.

What do you want readers to gain from your book?

I’m told I have lots of “little lessons” sprinkled throughout my book – though I don’t see most of them. I’m like, “Whoa … you got that out of this story?” I suppose God must have helped! The main theme is following God – not your thoughts, not your feelings, not what may seem logical, and not what you feel is right.

Have you written any other books and where can we get them?

Yes, I have! Other than At Her Fingertips, there are the first two book in the series – The Dressmaker’s Secret and Ivy Introspective. I’ve also written a historical novella set in the 1930s, The Lady of the Vineyard, and its sequel, Flowers. I also have a short story, Esther Acton’s New Dress.

You can find all of these on my website, kellynrothauthor.com. They’re all listed on my ‘books’ page. Feel free to sign up for my newsletter to receive monthly updates and special features!

I’m British, and I was wondering if you’ve ever been to England before and if not, which city or landmark would you visit?

I’ve never been in Britain, though I travel there with my imagination through books, movies, and Google Streetview. 😉 I really want to, though … definitely on the bucket list!

I want to see Yorkshire – you know, The Secret Garden’s setting – and Oxford. The White Cliffs of Dover and basically any old mansions I could find. The Scottish Highlands would be amazing, too, if I had time.

Basically, I’d like to see everything I could! Just drink it all in.

If you could meet a famous person in the Victorian era, who would it be and why?

Abraham Lincoln! He’s one of my heroes. There’s something about him that just makes me happy. I think he was a very good man.

Where can we connect with you?

Book Blog: reveriesreviews.wordpress.com
Official Website: kellynrothauthor.com

And finally, what tips you have for young aspiring writers?

Don’t give up! Writing is hard, and sometimes it may seem like there’s no point … but there is a point! I wrote a blog post on the subject as it is something I’m very passionate about. Just keeping writing!

Thanks so much Kellyn! And if what you want to know more about At Her Fingertips and Kellyn herself, then simply continue reading 😊

At Her Fingertips (Book #3, featured novel)

Alice Knight is looking forward to her debut as it means she will be able to carry out her plan. She will have her first Season in London, she will meet her husband, and she will marry him. However, Alice struggles to make her feelings reconcile with her goals.

Alice is sure that, if she can only cling to her plans, she will manage without help from anyone — including God. A childhood friend returning unexpectedly, a charming gentleman who is not all he should be, and an American author with strange ideas about life all make her question the plan.

London in the Dark One Year Anniversary-Author Interview

London in the Dark

Hello everyone! I am so excited to be interviewing the wonderful Victoria Lynn as part of her one year anniversary for her book, London in the Dark, today. I hope you’ll enjoy the interview and stick around for more excitement afterwards!

Hi Victoria. When did you start writing with the hope of becoming an author?
Probably about 3 years ago. I have always enjoyed writing, but didn’t much have the distinct hope of being published until I realized that was a possibility.
What is London in the Dark about?
London in the Dark is about a Private Detective in London just after the turn of the century in 1910. The story is focused around him and his sister as they seek to maneuver the mystery that is surrounding them and the life challenges that have come at them.
What inspired London in the Dark?
The idea of what it would be like if someone like Sherlock Holmes had a sister. That was the main idea. 😀

That sounds really fun. Who is the book for?

Anyone who loves historical fiction with a dash of mystery and suspense. And those who enjoy deep stories full of emotion and depth.
Sounds like something that I’d read. What do you want readers to gain from your book?
I hope that they learn that even though life can be difficult and at times, full of pain and sorrow, God is always still there in the midst of it with us. He will never leave or forsake us.
So true. Have you written any other books and where can we get them?
I have one other book aside from London in the Dark. It is a contemporary christian fiction called Bound. You can find it on amazon, here. https://amzn.to/2ITPlCN
I’m British, and I’ve always enjoyed my visits to London. Have you ever been to London before?
I have not, I have been on google street view so much though. LOL! It is my biggest hope one day to go.
If you could go back in time through history, where would you go?
Oh, that is such a hard call. I am huge history buff and love so many different eras. Probably 1910 just because that would be the most applicable. But to be honest, I am very grateful that God has me living in the time that I do.
Where can we connect with you?
You can first and foremost find me on my blog, but I also inhabit facebook and instagram under the handle @victorialynnauthor. 😀
And finally, what tips you have for young aspiring writers?
First and foremost it is to just write. Set yourself small, achievable, daily goals and make them happen. You’ll find success if you can create a habit of writing.

Thanks so much for having me on your blog! ❤

Thanks for letting me interview you! And if you want to know more about Victoria and her book, you can find read her bio and the blurb of her book here just to whet your  appetite:

Savoring Single Blog Tour- Author Q&A

SavoringSingle1.jpg

Hello everyone!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today is a day where there are many mixed emotions due to love and singleness. But today, I’m excited to chat with Shelley Black, the author of Savoring Single, as part of her blog tour  on her new book and her advice for those of us who are single today.

Hi Shelley. When did you begin writing with the goal of becoming an author?

Funny enough, I never set out to become an author. My debut release, “Savoring Single,” came as inspired thought that I then developed to become what it is today. It certainly sparked something in me, though, as I already have four more book ideas and outlines ready to make their way to the blank page. It’s become such an exciting adventure!

What is Savoring Single about?

“Savoring Single” is an encouragement to every single girl heart who loves Jesus that there is more to her life than her relationship status and more to her story than a “happily ever after.” My life was on hold for a long time because I was single and believed I was missing out because of it. When in all reality, life is what we make of it, single or married, and can be thoroughly enjoyed and brimming with fulfilment even as we await God’s every promise to unfold. It is in Christ that our truest lives are lived and being single is the perfect time to give ourselves to that journey!

What inspired Savoring Single?

“Savoring Single” is really my testimony. So when God put the idea, and even the first few chapters, in my heart, I went on a road of remembrance of all He had brought me through and where I am in now today. It was remarkable to see how my thoughts and perspectives had changed, how He has changed my heart. Wow. Glory to God. For real.

Who is the book for?

Any single girl heart who is longing for a better way to do single, who wants to live above the depression, rejection and disappointment, who desires a full life and a rich relationship with God. And maybe she doesn’t even realize this is what she wants yet, but knows there must be something more than tear-stained pillow cases, agonizing loneliness and shallow relationships that don’t mirror true love.

Today, of course, is Valentine’s Day. What tips do you have for girls, women or anyone really who is feeling sad because they are Single?

God’s way of doing things is opposite to the culture we live in. The world says “take,” God says “give.” The world says “hoard,” God says “be generous.”

When we would rather sulk in our pity-party and wallow in our loneliness, watch a chick-flick and scorn our singleness – as the world has shown us so well to do – but hasn’t that gotten you into the same rut you face every year? So how about try something different.

1 Go and be love to someone else. When we give love, we are loved in return by Him.

2 Spend time to love on God. He delights in spending time with you, so go in your room and instead of teasing your emotions with a sappy romance, allow your heart to think on and read scriptures that declare His love and care for you. You’ll be much better off spending those broken moments with Him, I promise!

3 Tune your heart to thankfulness. Without “preaching” a sub-point (smile), I will say this: Eve’s fall came because she believed the lie that God was holding out on her. Sometimes it’s easy to believe the lie, but only if we’re not submerged in the truth. Let the truth of His Word resound in your heart of His faithfulness, kindness, mercy and provision. Thank Him for everything you can possibly think to thank Him for, from your heart. If you run out of ideas, open a Psalm and as you read, thank Him for what David mentions.

769598HiRes.jpg

What do you want readers to get out of your book?

I want every girl who reads “Savoring Single” to encounter Abba Father in a deeper way that brings her into a richer, more intimate, relationship with Jesus Christ. Every.single.thing. we could ever hope for or need is in Him. Everything. Life, relationships and even marriage outside of Him is but a vapor of the depth He longs to bring us into by knowing Him. Our sun-parched skin can be momentarily soothed by the sea spray from a crashing wave, or we can swim to the depths of the ocean and drink in the very life our soul is desperate for.

Have you written any other books, and where can we find your writings?

“Savoring Single” is my debut release, but like I said earlier, more to come as early as this Spring. You can subscribe to my blog at SavoringSingle.com to stay up to date on blogs, speaking events and new releases!

“Savoring Single” is available at Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com.

Do you have any other passions other than encouraging others when they are low about feeling Single?

Oh my heavens. Yes. Worship! It’s the breath of my life and the constant atmosphere of my heart. I also build things, design graphics, spend tons of time with my niece and nephews

Where can we connect with you?

SavoringSingle.com or on Facebook and Instagram: @SavoringSingle

What tips do you have for young aspiring writers?

You are uniquely you and you have a story to tell. There are lives your life touches that others, even me, will never be able to reach. There is great power in the testimony, bringing glory to the One who formed us, redeemed us then renewed us to draw us near to Himself.

“But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus – the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” (Acts 20:24 NLT)

Let the lives that we live and the stories we share be to the glory of God. There are many creative and unique ways this can happen and His expression through you is all a part of His design.

Well thank you so much Shelley for this wonderful talk. And be sure to buy her book when you have the chance.

And if you want to know a bit more about Shelley, here is her bio:

Shelley Black_Author Photo.jpg

Shelley Black has journeyed through being single longer than she expected and has since found joy, hope and purpose from a once begrudged season. She now challenges the status quo of what it means to be single as a modern-day Christian female, with a passion to infuse hope and restore joy to every single-girl heart. Shelley is a loving momma to her pup Lucy, is one proud “T” to six nieces and nephews and serves her local church in North Mississippi as the worship leader. Find her at SavoringSingle.com and across social media at SavoringSingle.

How about you?

How are you celebrating Valentine’s Day today?

White Wolf and Ash Princess: Author Interview and Giveaway

Hello everyone!

I am so honoured to be part of the Blog Tour for Tammy Lash’s new  book, White Wolf and the Ash Princess, by doing an interview AND a giveaway!

Hi Tammy. When did you start writing with the hope of becoming an author?

I never thought I would ever be an author. Ever. I didn’t think I was “smart enough” to be one. I stink at grammar—I make mistakes all the time—I’m scatter-brained and ditzy—*squirrel*—and I have the attention span of an acorn (lol!)…BUT…I LOVED reading and I LOVE stories. I loved listening to my mom. She would tell stories at home and at church where she was a children’s church teacher. When I grew up, I too, felt the calling to teach kids. My husband and I have taught in children’s ministries for over twenty years.

What is White Wolf and the Ash Princess about?

White Wolf is the story of eighteen-year old Isabelle Gudwyne and her journey to the New World. She has many discoveries and revelations along the way, but these are also written to be my readers discoveries, so I don’t want to give too much away. What I can tell you is that Izzy’s life changes dramatically as the book goes on. Her life at the end is very different from the life she had with her guardian Jonathan Gudwyne in the beginning chapters. It’s extremely difficult to peg this book. It’s historical—yet fictional. It’s heart-wrenching—yet inspirational. Laughter, tears, romance, invention…there are so many fun elements to this book. I think there is grain or two of something for everyone in White Wolf.

What inspired White Wolf and the Ash Princess?

The idea for White Wolf started with a trip to the Garlyn Zoo in Michigan’s upper peninsula. I saw a white wolf there and fell in love with him. I just knew I had to put him in a story.

I  sat in on my son’s high school English course, One Year Adventure Novel, and I thought…huh…I think I can do this! I had been telling stories to my children’s church kids for years and writing a book seemed to be pretty much the same concept—except instead of dragging my stories on for weeks on end, it was to be chapters instead.

White Wolf became more than just a story about a girl and a wolf. It became a way for me to share my story through Izzy. White Wolf is a story of survival, discovering one’s own faith, and learning what it means to forgive.

Who is the book for?

White Wolf is for readers who like adventure, romance, a little humor, a little bit of tear action, colorful characters and neat things to learn about in history. White Wolf is a fun story, but it is really designed to be so much more than that. It is a love letter to my Lord and Savior, to my husband, my family, my readers and to fellow survivors of sexual abuse. It is my prayer people find hope and healing in Izzy’s story and my own.

What do you want your readers to gain from your book?

It is my prayer, that after reading White Wolf, people will take a moment to examine their own lives and look closer at their pain and injustices. Satan would want us to live in a world of pain and heartache forever. The Lord, however, wants us to be free from burden! He wants to carry each and every one of them for us. I want my readers to find a peace and a freedom that comes from letting go. I honestly believe forgiveness is the pathway towards it. It’s not an easy path to take, but it is possible to travel it successfully with His help.

Have you written any other books and where can we get them?

White Wolf and the Ash Princess is my first novel. The sequel, Letters from the Dragon’s Son, is in the works! The journey will continue six to seven months after White Wolf and the voice in this story is a little moodier, a little gruffer—a little lower. Jonathan Gudwyne will share his story this time around!

Do you have a favourite book( or books)?

Mrs. Mike was my mom’s favorite book. She passed it down to me and it quickly became mine, too! It’s a story about a Mounty and his wife and their adventures in the wilds of Canada. The native culture, the characters and the ruggedness of the book spoke to me as a teen and it heavily inspired the second part of White Wolf.

And finally, what tips do you have for young aspiring writers?

Everyone has a story to tell…and that everyone includes you! No one can tell your story the way you can. Let your fingers dance across your keyboard and let your words be the song.  Make writing a habit and try to do a little bit every day. Before you know it, you may have a novel of your own!

Well thank you so much Tammy for joining me today. And now, ladies and gentlemen, the giveaway!

And if that wasn’t enough, here is the blurb of the book to wet your appetite:

izzyebook

Eighteen year old Izzy’s limited world begins to feel cramped after she completes her self-appointed book dare. After reading two-hundred and fifty books, a thought that had been once tucked away as tightly as the books on her library shelves becomes too irresistible to ignore…”Who am I?”

Memory loss prohibits Izzy from remembering her life before age seven when she was injured in a fire. Jonathan Gudwyne and his head housekeeper rescued her and took Izzy in as their own, but who did she belong to before they took her in?

Crippling panic keeps Izzy from wandering beyond the stables but Tubs, the Gudwyne’s young stable boy, encourages Izzy to go beyond the property’s rock wall to a world that promises possible answers, but also great danger. A scorched castle in the woods and a mysterious cellar filled with secrets sets Izzy on a path to the New World, where she will not only have to face her own terror but face the people responsible for her scars.

It is here, in the untamed wilds of the seventeenth century that she finds love and a home in the most unexpected of places.

Taylor Bennett Author Tribute 2017

Hello everyone!
Today, I am introducing to the last, but certainly not the least, of authors who has influenced me this year.

About Taylor Bennett:

Taylor Bennett is the seventeen-year-old author of a contemporary YA series published by Mountain Brook Ink. The first book in the series, Porch Swing Girl, will be released in June of 2018.

Homeschooled since kindergarten, she is a proud homebody who suffers from the rare–yet always severe–case of wanderlust. Although she dreams of traveling to many different places, her favorite destination thus far (aside from her charming hometown in Oregon) is Lahaina, Hawaii.

Taylor was so enamored with this tropical town that she became determined to write about it, hence her novel Porch Swing Girl, the first in a series of books set in Hawaii.

A lover of literature since birth, Taylor found her love of writing fueled under the instruction of Andrew Pudewa and the other teachers at the Institute for Excellence in Writing.

When she isn’t writing, Taylor enjoys cooking, drawing, playing the violin on her church’s worship team, and editing articles for the Magnum Opus Magazine. She is a member of ACFW and OCW

My Tribute

Taylor, thank you so much for encouraging me to start and build a platform on social media, in particular Instagram,. I’m really excited that your debut  book is coming out next year, and I look forward to seeing you, one of my heroes, progress as a writer.
